The Craft
Freemasonry is a journey of self-improvement, brotherly love and service. It takes good men and, through friendship, ceremony and shared values, encourages them to become better — better husbands and fathers, better friends, and better members of their community. For 175 years, Lodge St Andrew at Bexley No. 7 has practised the Craft here in the St George district, under the United Grand Lodge of NSW & the ACT.
The Foundations
The Three Great Principles
Strip away the ceremony and symbolism, and Freemasonry rests on three foundations any good man can recognise.
Relief
Charity in its truest sense. Freemasons give generously and quietly — to one another in hardship, and far more to the wider community through hospitals, scholarships, disaster relief and countless local causes.
Truth
The aim of every Freemason: truth in his dealings with others, and truth about himself. The Craft asks a man to look honestly at his own character and to be, in private, the same man he appears to be in public.

What Freemasonry Is
A Fraternity, Not a Secret Society
Our lodges, meeting places and charitable work are all a matter of public record. What is kept private is simply the ceremony itself — because a lesson experienced first-hand is remembered far longer than one merely described.
Open to Men of All Faiths
Freemasonry is not a religion and does not replace one. It asks only that a member believe in a Supreme Being; the particular faith is entirely his own. Men of many religions sit side by side in our lodges as equals.
Rooted in the Community
A lodge belongs to its suburb. Much of our charity is close to home, and the Bexley community has been part of our story for over a century. To join is to become part of that continuing work.

Becoming a Freemason
The path to joining is more straightforward than most people expect. The old advice still holds: to be one, ask one.
Who Can Join
- You are a man of at least eighteen years of age.
- You are of good character and repute.
- You believe in a Supreme Being (any faith).
- You come of your own free will, wishing to improve yourself and help others.
1 · Make Contact
Reach out through our contact form. Ask your questions and tell us a little about yourself. There is no obligation — this is a conversation, not an interview.
2 · Visit the Lodge
You will be invited to meet the brethren, usually over dinner at our festive board, so you can experience the fellowship and decide whether it feels like home.
3 · Apply & Be Initiated
When you are ready, you complete a short application and meet a few members informally. Once accepted, a date is set for your initiation — the first of the three ceremonies of the Craft.
